Elm Park Care Home, Doncaster, Soft Furnishings for Care

With 74 bedrooms (including 11 Executive rooms) the home’s objective is to provide for a range of Care needs, with residential needs catered for on the ground floor and more specialist dementia and nursing care on the floors above.

Brief:

The home celebrates independence with services including a hairdressers, bar, cinema room, activity room and landscaped gardens. Working with Iain  and Cynthia Murphy from Alston Murphy,

Darrington wanted to create a luxury, tranquil interior with a homely, domestic feel, rather than a healthcare environment.  The designers wanted to incorporate a range of colours in different schemes to suit different areas of the home, to meet specific tastes of the residents and to change the mood and pace in certain rooms. Fabrics used needed to be washable and easy-care to ensure a long-lasting beautiful environment. Skopos first met with the design team at the Care Show in Bournemouth to discuss the needs of the project.

Outcome:

Alston Murphy specified that they wanted every room to have pelmets and curtains to give a luxury finished feel.  A number of schemes were chosen for standard bedrooms from the Shiomi, Heligan, Lowanna, Halcyon and Formation.

On the Dementia Care floor some of the designs were printed directly onto a  drapery dim-out fabric, with no linings, for practical reasons.  Skopos worked with Alston Murphy to pull together schemes, made-up all of the curtains for all        bedrooms and public spaces, all blinds and bedding and installed them on site within the given timescale. Schemes throughout the home help to emphasise and individually identify different spaces.
