Contract Fabrics - Aftercare
Our collections of flame retardant fabrics include a wide variety of compositions and thus specific aftercare instructions differ for each quality. These instructions can be found when viewing product specifications contained within each fabric in all collections.
Our general recommendations for drape fabrics are as follows:
- Use a detergent powder
- Do not wash in hypochlorite bleach. Avoid any contact with bleach based cleaning agents as this can cause significant damage to the fabric.
- Do not use optical brightening agents
- Do not use pure soap
- To maintain the flame retardant properties, regular washing or dry cleaning dependent on the fabric’s composition is recommended.
- Overloading machines can cause premature wear/colour loss. We recommend a maximum load of 65%.
- Slight colour loss may occur on dark shades during laundering.
- Shrinkage approximately 3% (BS 4923 - 5A/E), (BSEN 26330:1994)
Blackout laminated fabrics - to ensure a long and useful life of your blackout curtains, please follow our care and maintenance guidelines:
- When curtains are in situ, avoid contact with sharp or protruding objects and ensure the fabric has enough space to hang freely without getting trapped between fixtures and fittings, which could cause damage to the fabric.
Sunlight - although all our products achieve grade 5 or above for light fastness, when tested to BS EN ISO B02, it is prudent to avoid direct exposure to strong sunlight wherever possible as UV light can cause colours to fade and in extreme circumstances degradation of fabric. All curtains in this environment should be lined.
It is the contractor's responsibility to ensure all cleaning instructions are passed onto the end user.

Beau (when used as an upholstery fabric)
Beau Velvet has a lustrous and light reflecting pile which gives the luxurious appearance and ‘shine’. Part of this effect is that the pile will move and catch the light in different directions. This is a characteristic of Beau Velvet. Like crushed and other long pile velvets, any pile movement adds to the charming antique aesthetic. This is part of the nature and design of the fabric.
If preferred, the marks can be reduced with steaming and a soft velvet brush. With continued use the effect will develop to give a more ‘all over’ effect.
